Released in 2000, Snatch is a crime-thriller/comedy which takes place in England. Guy Ritchie produced and directed this film in his now-famous style. There is lots of movement and cut scenes, making it impossible not to pay attention.
Brad Pitt plays a gypsy who is hired by some shady underworld figures to throw a boxing match. However, things do not go as planned. His battle between his clan and organized crime figures becomes an epic showdown.
My favorite character and actor in the film is Alan Ford (pictured above). He is at the same time menacing, charming and comedic. Truly an excellent performance, one which he probably had a ton of fun playing.
The catchy and witty dialogue is entertaining, but you may find yourself having to rewind it a few times because the heavy urban British accents are sometimes hard to decipher. Don’t bother doing this for the gypsy dialogue though because they are supposed to be hard to understand on purpose.
The movie is funny, entertaining, fast-paced, and smart. The humor is a little too on-the-nose at times, but I can live with it. There is a great deal of violence too so I wouldn’t recommend watching this one with kids in the room. Definitely not a family film.
In summary, I give this movie a score of 88 potatoes (out of 100). It’s a solid, unique, and funny crime drama.
